Cobra is not at the top of my list for desired hybrids or other golf clubs. The reason this golf club is in my bag is because of its unique loft as a 7H at 31°. I was looking for a hybrid to hit with some good loft like a wedge. My family passed around, Callaway War Bird 7 Wood through the years. That club was excellent for 180 yard par 3s with its great distance and straight drop at the end of its flight.

Recently, I played at Heron Glen Golf Club with my dad. It was the first round that we had played together this summer. I enjoy playing with my dad now that I can hit consistently and don’t lose a dozen balls on the Front 9 or my temper on a regular basis. This round was special to me for another reason, I played probably my best golf score despite imploding on the last 3 holes of the day. And I didn’t lose my sh!t.

I started playing with this style some time last year. I found myself not hitting my irons very well and getting frustrated. I was chopping my irons into the ground or hitting behind the ball when I was trying to hit too hard. At that time, I had a 4 TaylorMade Rocketballz hybrid and just picked up a 5 of the same brand to replace my 4 and 5 irons. I started to use the 5 hybrid to hit a 150 yard shot instead of my 7 iron. And it worked!

When you replaced the sand trap with the spoon, you removed the trap form your mind and shot profile. Now swing nice and easy to your target, the pin.

Too many players do not take time to read the green on their chip. Aim your chip base don the green’s breaks and roll your shot to the pin and not past it.

One afternoon, I went to my local pitch & putt/miniature golf spot, Golf Land, to work on my 60° wedge that I found in my old golf bag. I figured this a great place to try out this club with no real consequences to my ego or handicap. I had played the course ages ago and little had changed except all the development around it.

Heron Glen is fun course that offers subtle challenges. The course has mild elevation changes but some fairways tilt to one side favoring drives to the other side. There are several environmental areas to carry but the course provides drop areas on the other side for shots that do not clear them.
