Mountain View Golf Club Course is Worth the Journey

Central New Jersey offers a good selection of golf courses.  I played a few and am trying to hit as many as possible.  I played Mountain View Golf Club last year and gladly returned again this year in the spring.  The tree’s leaves had not come out yet but I enjoyed the golf course all the same.  Mountain View holds its own against other golf courses in the area with its sloping greens and sloping fairways.

Mountain View Golf Club Overview:

Mountain View belongs to the Mercer County golf courses which includes Mercer Oaks East, Mercer Oaks West and Princeton Country Club.  Mountain View weaves its way through Mercer county and its hills.  Some fairway angle left to right or reverse forcing drives to be aimed up hill to stick to the fairway.

Cours information and tee times are available through the Mercer County golf courses websites: http://www.golfmercercounty.com  The course has a driving range and putting green to warm up prior to hitting the course.  There is also a restaurant with a nice patio overlooking the 18th green to unwind after your round.

The nice part of Mountain View is the welcoming nature to golfers who like to walk.  Rates are lower for walkers and the course has pull carts available.  The undulating course makes some holes a but of a hike uphill but overall the course is easily walkable.

Condition of Mountain View Golf Club:

The day I played the course was still waiting for spring to bloom in the trees and the ground was soft with melted snow and rain.  Despite this the course was is good shape.  The soft fairway provide very little roll for drivers.  I walked the course with my push cart and enjoyed the tour.

The sand traps were in good condition and offered solid sand play.  The tee boxes were still doormat but showed signs of ready to come back when the weather warmed up.

The staff at Mountain View was very friendly and paired me up with another golfer as I singed up as a single.  We show Marshalls several time during the round.  I wish they had told the threesome in front of us to let us pass but it did not bring the day down.

If I ran Mountain View Golf Club:

There is not a lot to improve with Mountain View.  A drink cart would be nice or being able to order lunch at the 9th tee to grab it at the 10th tee.

Favorite Mountain View Golf Club Hole:

I would say that the 5th hole was my favorite hole.  This 274 yard par four hole measures short and might be drivable except the green poised at the top of a hill.  Driving across the finger of a pond is not too challenging but it is the blind approach shot up the hole that is fun.  Atop the hill, the view looking back is very nice of the course.

My final say:

I will be back to play this course again.  The course is a good value and offers a good challenge.   Like that many people walk this course too.
